If Donald Trump wins the presidential election, he is expected to push the United States to provide about a quarter of the funding, people familiar with the matter saidcrouchingtigerhiddendragoniithegreenlegendThe International Energy Agency (IEA) returns to energy security and fossil fuel supply.

The Paris-based International Energy Agency was established after the Arab oil embargo in the 1970s to ensure the security of oil supplies in developed economies.

However, in recent years, the agency has shifted from that goal to supporting the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and advocating major changes to the global energy system, including more electric vehicles (ev), renewable energy supplies, hydrogen and all other low-carbon energy sources. The International Energy Agency even said that if the world has a chance to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, no new oil and gas development will be needed.

But former Trump administration officials and people familiar with Trump's energy thinking told the media that if Trump is elected president of the United States in November, he may pressure the International Energy Agency to re-focus on maximizing fossil fuel supplies.

Trump has not publicly expressed any views on the International Energy Agency, and his campaign declined to comment on the Reuters report.

Authoritative financial media said that Trump will seek to replace Fatih Birol, current executive director of the International Energy Agency. The IEA's current focus is on advancing the net-zero emission and clean energy transition agenda. It has also begun to disagree significantly with OPEC on forecasts for growth in oil demand.

Just this week, the International Energy Agency lowered its growth forecast for 2024 by 140,000 barrels per day from last month's assessment, and now expects global oil demand to grow at 1.1 million barrels per day.

With the latest downward revision of oil demand growth, the International Energy Agency has further widened the gap with OPEC forecasts. The IEA predicts that global oil demand will increase by 1.1 million barrels per day this year, while OPEC is still optimistic that global oil demand will increase by 2.25 million barrels per day this year.
